WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — A Pennsylvania College of Technology plastics student is one of just six individuals nationwide to receive a $5,000 PACK EXPO scholarship.
Lucas S. Poche, of Lewistown, a senior majoring in plastics and polymer engineering technology, earned the scholarship from the Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies (PMMI). PMMI is a trade association consisting of companies involved in various aspects of packaging throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.
A dean’s list student, Poche is vice president of the Society of Plastics Engineers Student Chapter at Penn College. He recently completed an internship at Jarden Plastic Solutions in Reedsville, working as a process engineer.
“Trade associations consistently recognize the important role Penn College plays in the workforce by awarding scholarships to our students,” said David R. Cotner, dean of industrial, computing and engineering technologies. “We are proud of Lucas for being one of just a few students nationwide to receive the PACK EXPO Scholarship. It speaks well of him and the college.”
Granted by the PMMI Foundation, the scholarships are awarded annually in conjunction with the PACK EXPO, a trade show for professionals in packaged goods industries.
Penn College is one of six institutions nationwide offering plastics degrees that are accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET. Students may seek the bachelor’s degree in plastics and polymer engineering technology or an associate degree in plastics and polymer technology.
