Pittsburgh journalists to participate in discussion about synagogue massacre

September 23, 2019

An accomplished journalist who served as professional-in-residence in the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications at Penn State during the spring semester will return to the University Park campus with two colleagues in early October for a panel discussion about coverage of the October 2018 synagogue massacre in Pittsburgh.

Lillian Thomas, an assistant managing editor of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, will be joined by Rebecca Droke, a visual journalist, and Rich Lord, an investigative reporter, for the session at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 in Freeman Auditorium of the HUB-Robeson Center.

The discussion, “Tree of Life: One Year Later,” will look back at media coverage of the event, its aftermath and what has happened since -- for both the media and those impacted. Curt Chandler, an assistant teaching professor in the Department of Journalism, will serve as moderator for the session, which is free and open to the public.
