Author of 'Teach Yourself How to Learn' to visit Penn State Berks

Internationally acclaimed educator, lecturer, and author of this year’s Common Reading selection Saundra McGuire will visit Penn State Berks to discuss her book and share the tools and strategies that have enabled faculty members to facilitate dramatic improvements in the classroom. This lecture will be held at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

McGuire has travelled the globe promoting successful strategies to help students, including those underrepresented in science and math professions, to be successful in their coursework and careers. She is director emerita of The Louisiana State University Center for Academic Success and retired assistant vice chancellor and professor of chemistry. 

Her awards include the 2017 American Chemical Society Award for Encouraging Disadvantaged Students to Pursue Careers in the Chemical Sciences and the 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers, just to name a few. In 2007, the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring was presented to McGuire in a White House Oval Office Ceremony.
