The Washington Post has described the Cavani String Quartet’s performances as “completely engrossing, powerful and elegant.” On Monday, Sept. 23, area chamber music fans will get to see one of these performances for themselves.
The Cavani String Quartet will visit Penn State Behrend that day to open the 30th season of Music at Noon: The Logan Series. The performance begins at noon in McGarvey Commons, in the college’s Reed Union Building. Admission is free, and reserved parking for audience members will be available in the Reed lot.
Formed in 1984, the Cavani String Quartet has toured throughout all 50 states and has performed at some of the world’s most prestigious festivals. The group has been featured on National Public Radio’s “Performance Today” and “St. Paul Sunday Morning,” as well as the syndicated quiz show “Says You.”
For more than 30 years, the Cavani String Quartet served as faculty and artists-in-residence at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where they developed and curated nationally acclaimed programs for student ensembles devoted to the serious study of chamber music.
Music at Noon: The Logan Series was founded by Mrs. Kay Logan in 1989 and receives major support from the Kay Logan Trust. Additional funding is provided by the Penn State Behrend Student Activity Fee. Music at Noon receives state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. Additional support for this program is provided in part from an Erie Arts & Culture Project Grant, made possible by community contributions to the Combined Arts & Cultural Campaign and the Erie Arts Endowment.
