Schlegel collects pair of Big Ten weekly awards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Redshirt freshman Ally Schlegel has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player and the Freshman of the Week announced by the Big Ten Conference. Schlegel claims the award after scoring goals in both of Penn State's games this weekend. This is the second consecutive week Schlegel has earned a weekly honor as she was named Co-Freshman of the Week last week.

Schlegel scored the lone goal of the 1-1 tie against No. 22 West Virginia in Morgantown. The redshirt freshman proceeded to net the game-winning goal against James Madison to give the Nittany Lions their fourth win of the season.

Schlegel has scored in four consecutive games for the Nittany Lions and Penn State is 3-0-1 in those contests. This is the second straight Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award for the Nittany Lions. Sam Coffey collected the honor last week.

Schlegel became the first Big Ten student-athlete to win Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week since Aug. 28, 2018, when Ohio State's Kayla Fisher also earned both awards.
