LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. — Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus began the 2019-20 academic year with a day of programming for faculty and staff on Aug. 22. The agenda concluded with the annual student Convocation.

The morning began with an open forum for faculty and staff, hosted by Charles Patrick, chancellor and chief academic officer. The group discussed initiatives to support and promote diversity in campus culture and student populations.

Later, Campus Police Officer Jason Hayes presented a training program to help prepare faculty and staff in the event of an active attacker event, assisted by officers Scott Williams and Adam Russell.

In the afternoon, the group convened for the annual kick-off presentation, in which the chancellor reviewed news and successes from the 2018-19 academic year and charged the campus community with another year of progress.

“The kick-off events are an exciting beginning to the academic year and a great time to interact with colleagues,” said Charles Patrick, chancellor and chief academic officer.

The day’s agenda concluded with the convocation of the incoming student body. A total of 165 students participated in the program, with over 400 guests present. Scrolls were presented by Danielle Mitchell, associate chief academic officer, and Jay Precht, associate teaching professor history and faculty senate chair.

“Convocation serves as the official induction in to the Penn State community, as well as an introduction to academic life and campus traditions,” said Chad Long, director of student affairs. “The program allows us to give students a foundation to embrace the Penn State values of integrity, respect, responsibility, discovery, excellence, and community.”
