UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — University administrators have indicated that non-union Penn State employees who are eligible will receive notice of a merit-based salary increase for fiscal year 2019-20 by the end of September. The increase in pay will be reflected in eligible employees’ September 2019 paychecks, and pay increases will be retroactive to July 1, 2019.

A 2.5% pool for merit-based salary increases was requested by President Eric Barron and approved by the Penn State Board of Trustees in July as part of the University’s 2019-20 operating budget. Actual individual percentages are determined during the employee review process.

“Merit increases reflect Penn State’s commitment to providing competitive salaries and rewarding employees for their hard work on behalf of the University,” said Lorraine Goffe, vice president for human resources and chief human resources officer. “We appreciate employees’ patience as we’ve worked with departments and units across the institution since late July to set and process general salary increases for thousands of employees.”

Due to the time and planning that the process involves, Goffe added that University leaders anticipate September being the normal time frame for salary increases.

While individual units will determine how to notify employees of their new salaries, all faculty and staff members can view the amount of their increase and new salary information by visiting the WorkLion website as of Sept. 30.

On Sept. 30, employees can view their new pay information by:

1. Logging into WorkLion.

2. Selecting Workday.

3. Clicking on the cloud icon in the top right corner to view profile.

4. Selecting the Compensation tab to view new salary.

5. Specific information about the amount of the increase can be found under the area titled “Pay Change History.”

After Sept. 30, employees with questions regarding merit increases can contact Penn State HR Shared Services by phone at 814-865-1473 or by logging into the WorkLion portal, selecting “Contact Us” from the menu, and submitting an inquiry.
