Eight College of Engineering programs rise in U.S. News undergraduate rankings

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — In the recently released 2020 U.S. News & World Report "Best Undergraduate Schools" rankings, eight Penn State engineering specialty disciplines rose from last year’s rankings, with five of the eight disciplines making significant jumps.

Environmental engineering, ranked No. 12 in the nation, and electrical engineering, ranked No. 18, both jumped up five spots from last year’s report.

Aerospace engineering, ranked No. 12, and computer engineering, ranked No. 19, both climbed four spots from last year’s report. Mechanical engineering, ranked No. 14, jumped up three spots.

Three programs — agricultural and biological engineering, which remained the same at No. 10; industrial engineering, which moved up one spot to No. 8; and materials engineering, which moved up one spot to No. 10 — are ranked in the top 10 of their specialty categories.

In addition, civil engineering, ranked No. 13, jumped up one spot, while biomedical engineering is new to the rankings at No. 29.

Overall, the College of Engineering was ranked at No. 25 in the United States.
