UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A new credential from Penn State can help industry professionals better assist organizations in achieving their goals in today’s rapidly evolving business environment.

The curriculum in the graduate certificate in management consulting focuses on the crucial aspects to helping improve an organization’s performance, from identifying challenges to transforming its business model and advising on strategic issues to align with growth and change.

The certificate is being offered online through Penn State World Campus and the internationally recognized Penn State Smeal College of Business. Applications are being accepted for admission in Penn State’s spring 2020 semester, which begins in January.

“The consulting industry continues to grow at a rapid pace,” said Brian Cameron, associate dean for professional graduate programs at Smeal. “Even if you’re not working in consulting, everybody is a consultant of some type. Having a consultant's skill set is a benefit for everyone today, regardless of the type of organization you work for.”

Students will take three courses, two in management consulting and one elective. In a course on business transformation consulting, students will be taught about key issues, concepts and methodologies to help organizations better align their resources to meet strategic priorities. In the other required course, students will be taught about management consulting methods and practice to develop the skills necessary to engage stakeholders.

Students can choose an elective from more than 10 courses in business administration, entrepreneurship and management.

The credits from the management consulting certificate may be applied to one of several master’s degrees offered online through Smeal and World Campus: the master of business administration, the master’s in corporate innovation and entrepreneurship, the master’s in strategic management and executive leadership, and the master’s in marketing analytics and insights.
