Latino director, producer and host of 'The Kat Call' will visit campus Sept. 17

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Kat Lazo, director, producer and host of Latino platform Mitú’s “The Kat Call,” will present a free public lecture on Tuesday, Sept. 17, on Penn State's University Park campus.

Lazo will present “The Kat Call: Calling Us Out” at 6:30 p.m. in Foster Auditorium of Paterno Library. Her visit is sponsored by the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

Known for her no-nonsense style and humor, Lazo debunks and addresses misconceptions of the Latino community in her show “The Kat Call” on the Latino platform Mitú. In just three seasons, Lazo’s work directing, producing and hosting the show has amassed more than 15 million views.

Lazo began her YouTube channel, TheeKatsMeoww, in 2015 as a Colombian-Peruvian New Yorker eager to share her experiences as a Latina woman in media. She has since built upon her career as a YouTuber to become a successful digital video producer with work featured in The Daily News, Huffpost, Latina Magazine and Buzzfeed.

She hosted Barrio USA, an original Thrillist travel series which explores Latinx culture across the United States, and served as an assistant producer on a documentary about Reggaetón with Universal and Mass Appeal. Along with her experience, both humor and attitude have paved the way for Lazo’s success as a digital video producer and lecturer.
