UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Katherine Milkman, an award-winning researcher and the Evan C. Thompson Endowed Term Chair for Excellence in Teaching in the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, will be the keynote speaker at Penn State's 2020 Symposium for Teaching and Learning with Technology.

The TLT Symposium is scheduled for Saturday, March 21, 2020, at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center, University Park. It is a free event for all Penn State faculty, students and staff.

“We’re thrilled that Katherine is going to share with symposium attendees her expertise in researching ways to change consequential behaviors, like exercise and savings,” said Jennifer Sparrow, associate vice president of Teaching and Learning with Technology. “Her interest area and her use of big data to conduct research will provide valuable insights to our faculty and staff who are striving to improve how teaching and learning happen at Penn State.”

Along with her work at Wharton, Milkman has published articles in journals such as The Journal of Finance, Management Science, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. She has penned a number of columns for The Washington Post on the behavioral economics of everyday life, and hosts a Charles Schwab podcast titled, “Choiceology with Katy Milkman.” Additionally, Milkman co-directs the Behavior Change for Good Initiative at the University of Pennsylvania. That program’s work is being chronicled by former symposium speaker Stephen Dubner’s podcast, “Freakonomics Radio.”

The Penn State Symposium for Teaching and Learning with Technology annually brings together ideas and people with the power to transform education. The day’s events include presentations, discussions, workshops, networking, awards and more.

Registration for the 2020 symposium is now open. For those interested in presenting at the symposium, the call for proposals will open in October.
