Penn College mechatronics student earns scholarship

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — A Pennsylvania College of Technology student has received a $4,000 scholarship from PMMI, the Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies.

Levi E. Pomeroy, of Dillsburg, is one of 17 students nationwide selected for the scholarship, which requires students to have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, a career plan in packaging and processing machinery manufacturing, as well as a record of past awards and recognition and industry involvement through internship and career development activities.

The PMMI Scholarship is in memory of Claude S. Breeden, Glenn Davis and Art Schaefer. The PMMI Foundation provides more than $200,000 in academic scholarships each year to students studying packaging, food processing, engineering and mechatronics.

A dean’s list student and a member of the college’s cross-country team, Pomeroy is seeking an associate degree in mechatronics technology. He is a maintenance electrician intern at Carlisle Construction Materials.

Cotner, dean of Penn College’s School of Industrial, Computing & Engineering Technologies. “The scholarship reflects his dedication to his studies and future career and the quality of our growing mechatronics program at the college.”

Mechatronics integrates electrical, mechanical and computer engineering in one field, resulting in varied career options in manufacturing.

In addition to the associate degree in mechatronics technology, Penn College will offer a bachelor’s degree in automation engineering technology: mechatronics, beginning in fall 2020.
