Scholastic awards ceremony honors academic excellence

WYOMISSING, Pa. — Fifty-four Penn State Berks students received recognition at the Penn State Berks Scholastic Awards Ceremony. The awards presented included the Evan Pugh Scholar Award, the President Sparks Award, and the President’s Freshman Award.

The Evan Pugh Scholar Award is presented to those juniors and seniors who are in the upper 0.5 percent of their classes and have completed at least 48 Penn State credits at the end of the fall semester of the academic year the award is given. Candidates are eligible if they have been full-time undergraduate students for at least four semesters prior to selection. The juniors and seniors this year have cumulative GPAs of 3.98 and above. Students receiving this award included juniors Hunter M. Beane and Amanda N. Martin; and seniors Bridget M. Baksa, Asher C. Fair, Jack T. Frebel, Juan Miguel R. Hingada, Jennifer Maxwell, Jessalyn C. Rohrbaugh, Breanna L. Schmidt, Rishabh G. Shanbhag, Sara A. Stoyer and Celia Torres.

The President Sparks Award is presented to those degree candidates who have earned a 4.00 cumulative GPA based on at least 36 Penn State credits completed by the end of the fall semester of the academic year the award is given. Candidates are eligible for this award if they have not exceeded 59 total credits. Students receiving this award included Brooke L. Eveland, Elizabeth A. Good, Rachel P. Krut, Sarah E. Leisey, Jennifer E. Martin, Tristan J. Szymborski-Pratt and Zikun Zheng.

The President’s Freshman Award is presented to degree candidates and provisional students who have earned a 4.00 cumulative GPA based on at least 12 graded Penn State credits completed by the end of the fall semester of the academic year the award is given. Candidates are eligible for this award if they have not exceeded 35 total credits earned. Students receiving this award included David A. Ahakinian, Adam T. Badinger, Nora K.
