Penn State York, Fox 43, and the American Red Cross have teamed-up to ask area residents to bleed for a good cause.  The American Red Cross is in need of blood donations, and a community drive is set for Thursday, Aug. 29 at Penn State York. The blood drive is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Conference Center of the Main Classroom Building, and is open to the public.

“It has become a meaningful tradition for Penn State York to partner with Fox43 and the American Red Cross for this annual blood drive,” said Sarah Guillen, associate director of student affairs at Penn State York.  “We are excited to give back to the community in this way, because we know that collectively we can achieve far more than we ever could individually.” Guillen continued, “Our hope is this year we will have a greater turnout than ever as we give a small part of ourselves in order to help save the lives of others. We welcome all community members to Penn State York campus to participate in this year’s blood drive,” she said.

According to the American Red Cross, the need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in the local community. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every two to three seconds.

In addition to the satisfaction of knowing they have helped someone in need, blood donors will receive a free $5 Amazon.com gift card via email.

To schedule an appointment to donate blood, call the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED CROSS or visit the American Red Cross website and enter the 17403 zip code to sign up for the campus blood drive. Registration is preferred but walk-ins are welcome.
