UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — High heat and humidity are expected across central Pennsylvania starting Friday, July 19, and lasting through Sunday, July 21, with temperatures at University Park topping out in the mid-90s and heat index values exceeding 100 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service, which has issued a heat advisory from noon Friday to noon Saturday, and an excessive heat warning from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, the high temperatures bring an increased risk for heat-related illnesses. To stay cool and safe throughout the weekend, members of the Penn State community are reminded to:

  • Limit outdoor activity, especially during afternoon hours, and take frequent breaks.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Remain in climate-controlled spaces when possible.
  • Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing.
  • Check in on friends and neighbors.
  • Seek medical attention immediately if symptoms of heat-related illness are encountered.
