UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Applications are now open for all Penn State campuses, colleges and programs interested in hosting a fundraising campaign during Penn State’s #GivingTuesday.

#GivingTuesday — which will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 3 — marks the fifth year that Penn State has participated in the international celebration of philanthropy. The day of giving highlights the achievements of faculty and students across Penn State, seeks to raise funds for a variety of initiatives, and is one of the University’s most successful fundraising efforts. Last year, Penn State’s #GivingTuesday celebration broke institutional records by generating more than 6,500 gifts in less than 48 hours, a 51% increase over the previous year’s results. In total, the 2018 event raised more than $700,000 dollars to benefit 66 University campaigns.

Those interested in taking part in the event — and raising both program awareness and funding — can apply online at givingtuesday.psu.edu/apply before the application closes on Sept. 17. All are welcomed to participate. Approved campaigns will be featured on Penn State’s #GivingTuesday website, with various challenges available to promote donor participation.

#GivingTuesday is an opportunity to not only encourage philanthropy, but to recognize the important role alumni and friends play in the University community. By increasing donor participation, we will continue to encourage Penn Staters to give back and support future generations of leaders and visionaries.

Student groups also can host #GivingTuesday campaigns, and their past efforts have garnered tremendous success. Last year, 17 of the #GivingTuesday fundraising campaigns were student-run, raising nearly $14,000 from 493 gifts. Students are invited to submit applications through the Penn State crowdfunding platform, Let’s Grow State, before Oct. 11.

Questions about the day or the application process should be directed to givingtuesday@psu.edu.

Gifts made on #GivingTuesday 2019 will advance “A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence,” a focused campaign that seeks to elevate Penn State’s position as a leading public university in a world defined by rapid change and global connections. With the support of alumni and friends, “A Greater Penn State” seeks to fulfill the three key imperatives of a 21st century public university: keeping the doors to higher education open to hard-working students regardless of financial well-being; creating transformative experiences that go beyond the classroom; and impacting the world by fueling discovery, innovation and entrepreneurship.
