New workers' compensation vendor announced

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. –  After evaluating multiple workers' compensation vendors, Penn State has selected a new third-party vendor, Broadspire, to manage its workers’ compensation (WC) claims beginning July 1, 2019.

The transition to the new vendor, Broadspire, will not affect an employee’s current treatment for work-related injuries. Penn State’s current treating physicians will be the same for Broadspire and ongoing treatment for current open claims will be covered.

Employees who have an active WC claim through Sedgwick will receive a letter from Broadspire the week of June 24 notifying them of the change in vendors and will contain the following information:

  • New claims adjusters
  • Billing address to provide to panel physicians
  • Contact information
  • A new active claim number

“We are very excited about our new partnership with Broadspire, and we expect to improve the experience our employees will have with managing their claims,” said Greg Stoner, senior director of compensation and benefits. “We will have a dedicated team of very experienced claims managers, whose primary client will be Penn State.”

Broadspire’s accident reporting and claims management systems will be customized for Penn State and accessible via the WorkLion portal. To ensure a smooth transition, the current work-related injury/illness reporting phone number, 877-219-7738, will remain the same.

Broadspire administers the WC programs of many similar clients, including the University of Southern California, Oklahoma State University, Tulane University and many other universities and school districts.
