“One of my biggest goals coming into this new role is focusing on student success,” Callejo Pérez said. “Part of achieving this will be helping our faculty be educational leaders who foster learning in students and understand who our students are and where they want to go. We will also be developing thoughtful programs that help not only enrich our students, but the communities they live in.”

In his new role at Penn State, Callejo Pérez will facilitate curriculum and academic program development at Penn State’s Commonwealth Campuses, including strategic program planning, implementation and assessment, in partnership with campus and college leadership, University Faculty Senate, and other central offices of the University.  His office will also oversee academic market research, statewide continuing education, academic programs shared among multiple campuses and inter-institutional articulations.

Callejo Pérez has served as associate provost of academic affairs at Saginaw Valley State University since 2014, and is responsible for academic program assessment, administration of online education and a number of campus centers and services. In 2018, he was named interim dean of the College of Education.

At Saginaw Valley State, Callejo Pérez was the Carl A. Gerstacker Endowed Chair in Education, founded the Consortium for Policy, Evaluation and Research, and chaired the university’s institutional review board for the protection of human research subjects.

His professional experience also includes serving as a professor of curriculum studies and research at West Virginia University, a visiting professor at Barry University and assistant professor of curriculum studies and educational foundations at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Callejo Pérez’s research focuses on curriculum studies, civil rights, urban schools and higher education with a theoretical and historical approach to research on identity, Hispanic issues, educational policy, curriculum and evaluation. He has authored more than 75 peer-reviewed articles and refereed academic papers.

Callejo Pérez has served on numerous national advisory and journal boards. A member of many national societies and professional organizations, he is the past president of the American Association for Teaching and Curriculum.
