Student receives scholarship from professional group

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A Pennsylvania College of Technology student received one of two 2019 education scholarships from the Pennsylvania Health Information Management Association.

Each year, the association awards scholarships to students who demonstrate academic achievement and commitment to the field of health information management in Pennsylvania.

Kathleen S. Baumer, of Lebanon, received the scholarship award at the PHIMA state conference in May. Baumer earned an associate degree in health information technology in May and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in health information management, with minors in management and business administration.

Baumer served as a student liaison to PHIMA for two years, is president of the college’s Health Information Association student club and has been named to the college’s Dean’s List. She completed an internship in Evangelical Community Hospital’s quality improvement and risk management department.

Members of PHIMA are committed to maintenance and improvement in the quality of health information for the benefit of patients, providers and other users of clinical data.

Health information professionals code, collect and analyze health care data to support meaningful decision making.
