DuBois softball takes tough first-round loss in Small College World Series

DUBOIS, Pa. — The Penn State DuBois softball team fell to Judson College 2-1 in the first round of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Small College World Series on Monday, May 13.

A great pitching and defensive game left both teams scoreless through the first five innings. At the top of the sixth inning, Dubois' Skylar Ceprish (West Branch) hit a lead-off triple off of the center field fence, and Kayleigh MacTavish (West Branch) hit a single up the middle to score Ceprish for the first run of the game.

Judson College came up with two runs in the bottom of the inning, however, to take the lead going into the seventh. DuBois rallied hard, but with no luck, as Judson held on to secure the win.

Hitting – Ceprish had a lone hit as a triple, while MacTavish had the only RBI for DuBois, as well as two hits. First baseman Caleigh Huffman (Cabot, Arkansas) also added two hits.

Pitching – Lizzy Scott (West Branch) pitched a complete game, giving up six hits on 27 batters faced. Scott struck out seven and allowed only two runs.

The Lady Lions return to action at noon on Tuesday, May 14, versus Carlow University.
