Six named 2019-20 Big Ten Academic Alliance Academic Leadership Program Fellows

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Big Ten Academic Alliance's Academic Leadership Program will include six new Fellows from Penn State in 2019-20.

The Big Ten Academic Alliance is the academic consortium of the Big Ten universities and the United States’ pre-eminent model for effective collaboration among research universities.

The Academic Leadership Program focuses on addressing the challenges of academic administration at major research universities. Through the program, participants who have demonstrated exceptional ability and administrative promise can further develop their leadership and managerial skills. Fellows are appointed to one-year terms, and funding is provided by the participating institutions.

Penn State’s participants for the 2019-20 program were selected based on their significant contributions and further potential for University leadership. The participants are:

Denise Bortree, associate professor of communications, Department of Advertising and Public Relations, Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications.

Mallika Bose, interim associate dean for research, creative activity and graduate studies, and associate professor of landscape architecture, College of Arts and Architecture.

Prasenjit Mitra, associate dean for research and professor of information sciences and technology, College of Information Sciences and Technology.

Jennifer Nesbitt, associate professor of English, Penn State York.

Beth Seymour, associate teaching professor of anthropology; communications; history; and women’s, gender, and sexuality studies, Penn State Altoona.

Debra Thurley, executive director of research compliance, Office for Research Protections, and 2019-20 Administrative Fellow to Executive Vice President and Provost Nick Jones.

The Fellows will participate in three seminars during the 2019-20 academic year:

— “Contemporary Issues in Higher Education”
Oct. 3-5, 2019
Host: Michigan State University

— “Internal and External Relationships”
Feb. 6-8, 2020
Host: University of Maryland

— “Money, Management, and Strategies”
April 2-4, 2020
Host: Ohio State University
