— Katerina Bodovski, associate professor of education (educational theory and policy), and Volha Chykina, an alumna of the educational theory and policy doctoral program, published "Do human and cultural capital lenses contribute to our understanding of academic success in Russia" in the British Journal of Sociology of Education.
— Soo-yong Byun, associate professor of education (educational theory and policy), is part of a research team that was awarded an Institute for CyberScience seed grant. The team, led by Dongwon Lee, associate professor of information sciences and technology, and including Xiang Zhang, associate professor of information sciences and technology, will conduct research on "Using AI (artificial intelligence) to Improve Youth Employment in Morocco and Beyond."
— Eight members of the College of Education are part of research teams that have been awarded seed funding through the University's Strategic Plan Seed Grant Program (cycle 4). They are: Simon Corby, director of development; Alicia Dowd, professor of education (higher education) and director of the Center for the Study of Higher Education; Jackie Edmundson, chancellor of Penn State Greater Allegheny; Greg Kelly, senior associate dean for research, outreach and technology; Efrain Marimon, assistant teaching professor (curriculum and instruction) and director of the Restorative Justice Initiative; Scott Metzger, associate professor of education (social studies education); David H. Monk, dean of the College of Education; and Leticia Oseguera, associate professor of education (higher education). — Azaria Cunningham, a doctoral student in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, has been appointed to the University's Commission on Racial/Ethnic Diversity (CORED).
— William C. Diehl, assistant professor of education (adult education), and Michael G. Moore, distinguished professor emeritus of education (adult education), co-edited the fourth edition of the Handbook of Distance Education published by Routledge. This edition is a comprehensive compendium of research in the field of distance education. The volume is divided into four sections covering the historical and theoretical foundations of distance education, attributes of teaching and learning using technology, management and administration, and different audiences and providers.
— Alicia Dowd, professor of education (higher education) and director of the Center for the Study of Higher Education, has been appointed to the University's Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Equity (CLGBTQE).
— Erica Frankenberg, associate professor of education (educational leadership) and demography, was featured on two podcasts — Keystone Education Radio and Democracy Works — where she discussed the 65th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court case and its lasting impact on public education. Her research related to school segregation also was cited multiple times at a recent congressional hearing titled "Brown v. Board of Education at 65: A Promise Unfulfilled."
— Edward Fuller, associate professor of education (educational leadership), presented "Teacher Preparation and STEM Teacher Attrition in High-Poverty Schools" at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) ARISE (Advancing Rhode Island Science Education) working group meeting on May 6 in Washington, D.C. He also was quoted in "Turnstile teaching: At 26 Philly schools, teachers churn through jobs at an alarming rate, hindering some of the city’s most vulnerable children," published by Philly.com.
— Matthew Gardner Kelly, assistant professor of education (educational leadership), was quoted in "Will the financially strapped Allentown School District be taken over by the state?" published online by The Morning Call.
— David Passmore, distinguished professor of education (workforce education and development), was the keynote speaker for the International Scientific Committee at the XXII International Scientific Conference on Advanced In Civil Engineering: Construction - The Formation of Living Environment, held April 18-21 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. While there, he also presented three scientific papers. Passmore also recently published "Behavioral engineering model to identify risks of losses in the construction industry," which was included in the book "Smart Technologies and Innovations in Design for Control of Technological Processes and Objects: Economy and Production."
