UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State College of Education is establishing a Staff Advisory Council (SAC) that will serve staff members in the college's departments, administrative units, and centers and institutes. Throughout the spring semester, a work group consisting of eight staff members worked together to develop guidelines for the SAC, which were shared with the college via email on May 4.

The SAC will consist of nine members and include one representative from each of the following college areas:

  • Advising and Certification
  • Carrara Education Technology Center (CETC)
  • Curriculum and Instruction (includes CSATS)
  • Dean's Office 1 (dean's suite, recruitment, data analyst, multicultural programs, Humphrey Fellowship)
  • Dean's Office 2 (grants and contracts, research, and finance)
  • Development and Communications
  • Education Policy Studies (includes CSHE)
  • Educational Psychology, Counseling and Special Education
  • Learning and Performance Systems (includes ISAL, Goodling and PPDC)

Each member will serve a two-year term, with the exception of officers, who will serve a three-year term for the inaugural council. This will allow for a staggered membership pool and rotating terms for future SACs. All subsequent officers will serve a two-year term. Officers will be elected from the nine-member council. Time served as a member of SAC is considered part of a an individual's job responsibilities and not as personal time.

The application period for the inaugural SAC is now open and will close at 5 p.m. Friday, May 31. All full-time staff in the college are eligible to apply. Multiple individuals from the same area may apply; however, only one representative from each area will be selected. Members of the SAC work group, in consultation with human resources, will select members for SAC based on the applications received and following the criteria established in the SAC guidelines.
