UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Summer break is a time for fun, but also a time when some may use the quieter months on campus to take valuables when no one is looking.

Employees and students remaining on campus can help make their work space or residence hall less vulnerable by:

  • Immediately reporting suspicious people, vehicles and activities by calling 911 or the campus police station.
  • Never leaving valuables unattended.
  • Locking windows and doors whenever leaving your office or residence hall.
  • Reporting inoperable locks and latches to the appropriate building personnel.

Thefts and burglaries can occur in all communities when both opportunity and desire are present. While there is little that can be done to control someone’s desire to steal, University Police and the community can work together to limit opportunities for such crimes.
