Teach-in to focus on public debate over free speech on college campuses

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Department of Communications Arts and Sciences will host a teach-in titled, "Teaching and Learning Strategies in a Time of Public Debate Over Free Speech on College Campuses," from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, in 62 Willard Building on the University Park campus.

The event is free and open to the public.

The teach-in, which is designed to help both students and instructors, is intended as a forum for positive, patient and community-building dialogue over the critical importance of the First Amendment to our shared academic freedoms.

The event will help participants understand the roots of present-day debates over free speech on campuses; productively manage classroom situations in which contrasting ideas about free speech arise; and help promote constructive, evidence-based, inclusive and de-escalating dialogues about the full scope of protected First Amendment rights in higher education.
