UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Gardeners can learn new skills and choose from thousands of plants at the Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Centre County plant sale, on Saturday, May 18.

The annual event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Penn State Ag Progress Days venue, nine miles southwest of State College on State Route 45. Visitors should use entrance K. Those using GPS directions should enter "Pasto Ag Museum" as the destination.

The sale will offer more than 5,000 plants, including vegetables, herbs, native species, pollinators and infrequently seen annuals. The plants have been selected for successful growing in Central Pennsylvania.

Last year’s popular “learning tables” will be back, featuring short talks on succulents, container gardening, pass-along plants and birdhouse gourds. A special learning table will offer fun gardening ideas for children.

Master Gardeners will be on hand to help with plant selection and answer questions on planting, insects and caring for your garden.

Attendees can also visit the Spring Open House at Penn State’s Pasto Agricultural Museum, with demonstrations, tours and children’s activities planned.

A detailed list of plants for sale and other information can be found online.

A silent auction and a garage sale of gardening items will also be held. Breakfast and lunch, catered by Eden View Farm, will be available for purchase.

The annual plant sale is the only fund-raising event for the Centre County Master Gardeners. Trained by Penn State Extension, Master Gardeners are volunteers who offer residents research-based educational programs in consumer horticulture and caring for the environment.
