HERSHEY, Pa. — Paula Tinch will join Penn State Health on June 3 as senior vice president and chief financial officer. She will step into the role currently held by Steve Massini, who will become the chief executive officer for Penn State Health following the retirement of current CEO Dr. A. Craig Hillemeier early this summer. Tinch will be responsible for managing the health system’s finances, including financial planning, management of financial risks, revenue cycle, treasury and financial reporting.

Most recently, Tinch served Rochester Regional Health in upstate New York as senior vice president of finance, overseeing the core financial aspects of the $2.2 billion integrated health system. She led the teams responsible for the financial operations of the health system’s five major acute care hospitals, eight senior living facilities, 87 primary care and specialty physician office sites and multiple specialty programs.

Over the past two years, as Rochester General Hospital began a $260 million renovation project, including a public bond financing, she took on the additional responsibilities of the hospital’s chief financial officer.

“We are confident that Paula’s skills and experience in health care finance will prove to be very beneficial for our organization as we broaden our network,” said Massini. “In particular, her track record for effectively partnering with operational leaders to drive extraordinary business outcomes is exactly what is needed as we look to expand access to care for central Pennsylvania residents and meet their evolving health care needs.”

Prior to joining Rochester Regional Health, Tinch spent 11 years with Excellus Health Plan, a $5 billion health insurance provider. She served in several progressive roles, including as director of finance, where she was part of a senior management team supporting a $1 billion book of business, assisting in the development of integrated strategies, analysis and financial operations for the product line.

Tinch has served on the board of directors for the Rochester chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. She also was a finance committee member for both the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and for Willow Domestic Violence Center in Rochester.

A certified public accountant, Tinch earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting at Binghamton University, Binghamton, New York. She is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
