The college earned a Silver Award in the Magazine Advertising-Single category for an ad placed in the PIAA State Championship souvenir program. The ad celebrates the intersection of hands-on academics and athletics through cohesive visuals, copy and composition built on the college’s new brand platform, which launched in mid-2018.

A Bronze Award in the Outdoor Advertising category was received for a “Future Made by Hand” billboard showing forest technology students in an outdoor lab at the college’s Schneebeli Earth Science Center. The billboard also captured a Bronze CUPPIE in the 2019 CUPPIE Awards for Creative Excellence in Marketing and Communications in Education sponsored by CUPRAP (College and University Public Relations and Associated Professionals), which were announced in March.

Both the ad and billboard featured contributions from Deborah K. Peters, graphic designer (design); the 160 over 90 creative agency (photography); and Carlos Ramos, director of strategic marketing, and Larry D. Kauffman, digital publishing specialist/photographer (production).

“These awards, judged by our peers in higher education marketing and advertising, recognize the forward-looking branding we employ to spread the word about the college’s unique, hands-on approach to learning,” said Joseph S. Yoder, associate vice president for public relations and marketing. “Kudos to Deb, Carlos and Larry for their contributions to these two projects, which illustrate the dynamic scope of the Penn College educational experience.”

This year’s Educational Advertising Awards competition featured over 2,200 entries from more than 1,000 universities and secondary schools from all 50 states and several foreign countries.

Judges for the Educational Advertising Awards consisted of a national panel of higher education marketers, advertising creative directors, marketing and advertising professionals, and the editorial board of Higher Education Marketing Report.
