WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Five graphic design students at Pennsylvania College of Technology have received 2019 American Advertising Awards, and a fellow student was honored with a $1,000 scholarship.
The accolades were presented by the Northeast Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Advertising Federation at its recent awards ceremony, held at The Westmoreland Club in Wilkes-Barre.
In the American Advertising Awards/Student Division, Brandon M. Wolff, of Effort, received a Best in Show and gold award for his “Trailblaze Chocolate Co. Packaging.”
Another gold award was attained by Jared D. Kosko, of DuBois, for his “Rue Morgue Brewing Co. Packaging.” Kosko also won a silver award for his “Adler Annual Report.”
Also earning silver awards were: Luke A. Bierly, of Centre Hall, for “Legendary Beer Works Packaging”; Kennedy L. Englert, of Williamsport, for “Major Arcana Chocolate Bars Packaging”; and Madison P. Shrout, of Petersburg, for “Great American Smokeout Website.”
Erin N. Shaffer, of Williamsport, won AAF NEPA’s inaugural student scholarship for submitting an essay outlining her career goals, educational achievements, and volunteer and work activities. Shaffer received a $1,000 check.
The American Advertising Awards is the advertising industry’s largest competition, attracting more than 40,000 entries each year across the U.S. The mission of the awards is to recognize the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising. Gold award winners from the AAF NEPA level advance to the district competition.
Penn College graphic design students and alumni consistently earn recognition in regional, national and international advertising design competitions.
An exhibition of graduating seniors’ graphic design work will be held April 30 through May 10 in The Gallery at Penn College. “Graphic Design: 2019” will feature an opening reception from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 3. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
Wolff, Kosko, Bierly and Shaffer are among the students who have petitioned to graduate in May with bachelor of science degrees in graphic design.
