UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Nittany Lion’s looking for a few good students.

The Lion Troop, a student group at University Park campus, supports Penn State’s mascot with videography, set making, props, construction, dance and publicity.

Established in 2015, the group’s ultimate goal is to help the Nittany Lion mascot win the Universal Cheerleading Association competition.

To get there, Lion Troop volunteers design costumes, build props and plan skits for the mascot throughout the year. The students also film the lion at various Penn State sports and local events. A showcase of the lion’s work is sent to the Universal Cheerleading Association for consideration.

In the past two years, the Nittany Lion mascot has placed in the top ten and top five of the national contest.
