SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. — Penn State Schuylkill’s Theatre 282 students and Nittany Players will present “You Matter,” an original production about suicide prevention, at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10. The production is made possible through collaboration with Schuylkill Women in Crisis.
“You Matter” features a variety of situations detailing how not to speak to a depressed person, mirroring each scene with the proper way to communicate with someone who may be suicidal. The script was written to help the audience recognize warning signs expressed by someone who may be considering suicide.
The 25-minute performance will be followed by a question-and-answer session based on audience questions. This session will be moderated by Mindy Spolski, coordinator of Disability and Counseling Services at Penn State Schuylkill. Schuylkill Women in Crisis also will have resources available in Penn State Schuylkill’s Student Community Center prior to and following the performance. Additionally, Schuylkill County’s VISION Suicide Prevention Task Force will be available at the event.
This event will occur in Penn State Schuylkill’s Morgan Auditorium, located inside the newly renovated Student Community Center. The production is free and open to the public. Please note, the language and content of this production is strong to reflect real-life situations.
