Penn State announces 2019 University-wide faculty and staff awards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Each year, Penn State recognizes outstanding faculty and staff with annual awards in teaching and excellence. The invitation-only ceremony for the 2019 awards will be held Tuesday, April 2, at University Park.

2019 faculty and staff awards

Undergraduate faculty teaching awards

• The Milton S. Eisenhower Award for Distinguished Teaching — Mark Brennan, professor and UNESCO Chair in Community, Leadership, and Youth Development in the College of Agricultural Sciences, and Ali Kara, professor of business administration at Penn State York
• The George W. Atherton Award for Excellence in Teaching — Andrew Baxter, associate teaching professor in the Eberly College of Science; Jacqueline Bortiatynski, associate teaching professor in the Eberly College of Science; Liliana Naydan, assistant professor of English at Penn State Abington; Sarah K. Rich, associate professor in the College of Arts and Architecture; John Roth, professor of engineering at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College; and Jennifer Zosh, associate professor of human development and family studies at Penn State Brandywine
• The Penn State Teaching Fellows: The Penn State Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Teaching — John Affleck, Knight Chair in Sports Journalism and Society in the Donald P. • The Penn State Excellence in Advising Award — Janet Melnick, associate professor of teaching and field coordinator of human development and family studies at Penn State Scranton, and Joel Waters, academic adviser in biology in the Eberly College of Science
• The President’s Award for Excellence in Academic Integration — Michael Berkman, professor of political science in the College of the Liberal Arts
• The President’s Award for Engagement with Students — Krista Wilkinson, professor of communication sciences and disorders in the College of Health and Human Development
• The Undergraduate Program Leadership Award —R. Allen Kimel, associate teaching professor of materials science and engineering in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences 
• The Teaching and Learning with Technology Impact Award — Laura Guertin, professor of earth science at Penn State Brandywine, and Timothy W. Simpson, Paul Morrow Professor of Engineering Design and Manufacturing in the College of Engineering

• The Howard B. Palmer Faculty Mentoring Award — Katriona Shea, alumni professor of biology in the Eberly College of Science
• The Graduate Faculty Teaching Award — Alan MacEachren, professor of geography in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, and Esther Prins, professor of education in the College of Education
• The Graduate School Alumni Society Graduate Program Chair Leadership Award — Suzanne Mohney, professor of materials science and engineering and electrical engineering in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences
