'Queering Italian Cinema' to be topic of March 25 lecture

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Ryan Calabretta-Sajder, assistant professor of Italian and film at the University of Arkansas, will present "Queering Italian Cinema: The Case of Ferzan Özpetek" at 4 p.m. Monday, March 25, in 110 Business Building on Penn State’s University Park campus.

Calabretta-Sajder was a Fulbright scholar at the University of Calabria in Italy in 2017 and is the author of “Divergenze in Celluloide: Colore, migrazione e identità sessuale nei film gay di Ferzan Özpetek” (2016) and “Pasolini’s Lasting Impressions: Death, Eros and Literary Enterprise in the Opus of Pier Paolo Pasolini” (2017).

The presentation will examine one of Italy’s most noteworthy gay directors, Ferzan Özpetek, and his major queer films. The lecture, which will be in English, is sponsored by the Department of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese.
