UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — National Endowment For The Arts Jazz Master Benny Golson will headline the 20th Annual Penn State Jazz Festival on March 29 and 30 at the Penn State School of Music’s new Recital Hall and Esber Rehearsal Hall, Music Building 1, University Park.
Benny Golson, a saxophonist and prolific composer, is well known for numerous recordings with Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers, Dizzy Gillespie and Benny Goodman, as well as over 30 recordings under his own name. Golson will perform at the festival at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, with Centre Dimensions under the direction of Marko Marcinko, Penn State’s premiere large jazz ensemble.
In addition, Golson, known for his jazz compositions “Killer Joe," "Whisper Not," "Along Came Betty," "Stablemates" and "I Remember Clifford,” will give a jazz lecture at 2:30 p.m. on March 29 in the Esber Rehearsal Hall, Music Building 1.
The festival also will feature jazz pianist Steve Rudolph, trumpet master Dr. Eddie Severn, vocalist Elizabeth Radigonda, bassist Josh Davis and special guest Sharp Radway. The Penn State Jazz Faculty, along with Vocal Dimensions, Inner Dimensions, and Outer Dimensions, as well as numerous regional high school and middle school stage bands, will all perform during the weekend. March 29 will feature Outer Dimensions, Inner Dimensions and the Penn State Jazz Faculty, with guests, at 7:30 p.m. in the new Recital Hall, Music Building 1.
