UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Kelsey Crow, senior double-major in biology and psychology at Penn State, has been named the 2019 recipient of the Eric A. Walker Award.
The award is presented annually to the student who has contributed most to enhancing the reputation of the University through extracurricular activities. Walker was president of Penn State from 1956 to 1970.
Crow is a dedicated student-athlete who finds time to volunteer in numerous groups despite being captain of the Penn State women’s hockey team, and assistant captain twice before.
“Crow’s teammates voted her captain her sophomore year because they know she is genuine and they know how much she cares for them,” a nominator said. “Her mental toughness her willingness to learn, her desire to be the best continually sets the tone for her teammates. She’s tough and empathetic. Most of all, the players, support staff, and others trust her because of her loyalty.”
As a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Board special events member, Crow gathered donations for guests with dementia at Hearthside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. With help from PSU LifeLink, she led and promoted the event Lunch with the Lions to connect student-athletes with special education students. During the Special Olympics Centre County Geri Ryan Track Event, Crow hosted and managed student-volunteers during one of the events.
Crow has volunteered with Mount Nittany Medical Center, Special Olympics Summer State Games, Happy Valley Beavers, Beaver Stadium Run, Reading with Lions and LifeLink PSU Students.
