UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence (CGNE) at Penn State will hold its seventh annual Alumni and Friends Brunch from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 31 at the Nittany Lion Inn.
Margaret Calkins, president of IDEAS Inc. (Innovative Designs in Environments for an Aging Society), will present the keynote address, “Environmental Design for Older Adults: Research and Practice Recommendations.” Calkins is internationally recognized as a leader in the field of environments for the elderly, particularly people with dementia. An architect and gerontologist with a background in psychology, she has worked extensively to create low-cost solutions for facilities trying to improve their environments and programming for people with dementia.
Calkins’ presentation is sponsored with funding from the Ann M. and Leon T. Kolanowski Endowment Fund for Geriatric Nursing in the Penn State College of Nursing.
Registered nurses can earn one continuing education contact hour for attending.
Cost of the brunch is $39 in advance and $49 at the door. Tables of eight may be reserved for $275 (a savings of nearly $5 per person). Sponsorship opportunities also are available.
