UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — An aerial lift will cause partial sidewalk closures at Old Main from March 4-7. The lift will provide access for crews completing preconstruction investigative work involving Old Main's bell tower.

The northwest stair entrance will be closed for general use on March 5-6, but emergency egress and ADA access will remain available. Periodic delays for traffic accessing the Old Main parking lot, as well as noise from construction activity, also are anticipated during March 4-7.

The work comes as a result of an exterior survey of the building performed by Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates in April and June of 2017. The firm was hired to perform a comprehensive assessment of exterior systems of Penn State’s most iconic building, Old Main, for a multiphase maintenance project. Previously completed work includes reconstruction on the East Staircase and isolated slate shingle replacements.
