Kathleen S. Baumer, of New Columbia, is one of three students chosen for the position. PHIMA selected the liaisons based on their skills, their commitment to a career in health information management and their written communication.

Baumer plans to graduate from Penn College with an associate degree in health information technology in May. She is also pursuing a bachelor’s degree from the college in health information management with dual minors in management and business administration. She is president of the college’s Health Information Association student club, and has been named to the college’s Dean’s List. She is gaining experience in her field as an intern in Evangelical Community Hospital’s quality improvement and risk management department.

“PHIMA will help me be successful because I will make connections as well as gain professional experiences,” Baumer said. “Attending conferences is great for learning new information regarding my future career.”

In the student liaison role, Baumer works with PHIMA’s executive board members on projects and initiatives. She is also a student liaison for the organization’s Central Pennsylvania regional association.

Members of the Pennsylvania Health Information Management Association are committed to the maintenance and improvement in the quality of health information for the benefit of patients, providers and other users of clinical data.
