UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's basketball senior guard Teniya Page has been named a top 10 candidate for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year Award, as announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Tuesday afternoon.
Page has continued her stellar career in her senior season by averaging 19.7 points, 3.7 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game. The Chicago native's 19.7 points per contest ranks second-best in the Big Ten and 24th in all of Division I. Page has scored in double figures in 40-straight games dating back to last season and has recorded 101 double-digit efforts throughout her career. She has led the Lady Lions in scoring in 16 games this season, including eleven 20-plus point efforts.
Page recently became the first-ever Lady Lion to eclipse the 2,000 career points, 400 career rebounds and 400 career assists milestones. The guard became the sixth Lady Lion to join the 2,000 point club on Feb. 3, joining the likes of former Penn State legends Kelly Mazzante (2,919 points), Maggie Lucas (2,510), Susan Robinson (2,253), Tyra Grant (2,044) and Kahadeejah Herbert (2,026).
Page's 2,043 career points are fifth-most in program history, and she sits just one point away from Tyra Grant's mark of 2,044 points that is fourth in the Lady Lion record books. The senior guard also ranks in the top five of several other Lady Lion career records including free throws made (518-second), minutes per game (35.6–second), 30-plus point games (8-second) and scoring average (18.2 ppg fourth).
The Ann Meyers Drysdale Award is named after the first player, male or female, named to the All-America Team in four-straight college seasons. The annual award, in its second year, recognizes the top shooting guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball.
A national committee comprising of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates in October, which has now been narrowed to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Meyers Drysdale and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. Fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite finalist at www.hoophallawards.com.
The winner of the 2019 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award will be revealed in partnership with the WBCA at the Women's Final Four in Tampa, Florida.
