The 2019 Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON) will be held at the Bryce Jordan Center from 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15 through 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17.

To accommodate the required access for THON, a number of parking, traffic and transit adjustments will be in effect this weekend.

RESERVED PARKING LOTS

The following parking lots will be reserved this weekend in support of THON:

  • Lot Orange L South (fenced lot south of Bryce Jordan Center) will be reserved for THON from Thursday through 7:30 a.m. Monday. The lot will be used for technical and support vehicles in addition to volunteers that will be moving large amounts of material and supplies in and out of the Bryce Jordan Center. Faculty and staff that normally park at Lot Orange L South are asked to use Lot Orange L East, Lot Orange B (Softball) or one of the Commuter lots on Thursday and Friday.
  • Lot Orange L East (also known as the Founders Lot, located on the east side of the Bryce Jordan Center) and a nearby section of Jordan East will be reserved from 5 p.m. Friday through the conclusion of THON for Four Diamonds Fund Families. Faculty and staff that normally park at Lot Orange L East on Friday evening (after 5 p.m.), Saturday or Sunday should use one of the remaining Commuter parking areas from 5 p.m. Friday through 5 p.m. Sunday. In addition, several Orange L East spaces will be blocked beginning Friday morning for THON-related activities.
  • Lot Yellow V (located west of the Bryce Jordan Center) will be reserved for authorized permit holders only from 5 p.m. Friday through 5 p.m. Sunday.
  • The south section of Jordan East (located south of Dauer Road) will be reserved from 2 p.m. Friday through the conclusion of THON.
  • A section of spaces on the east side of the Stadium West parking area will be reserved for THON staging all day Friday, reopening at 10 a.m. Saturday.
  • The Yellow H Shields parking area will be close at 6 p.m. Friday, reopening for Women's Hockey parking only at 2 p.m. Saturday. Following Saturday's game, the lot will reopen to regular use.

VISITOR PARKING

General visitor parking for THON will be available at Stadium West, Jordan East and Porter North from Friday through Sunday. Overflow parking, as needed, will be available at the East and Eisenhower parking decks beginning on Saturday morning.

It is expected that all parking areas near the Bryce Jordan Center will reach capacity at various times this weekend. It is paramount that all vehicles be parked within all lines of a legal space to allow maximum access. Due to heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic, motorists are urged to use caution if traveling near the Bryce Jordan Center this weekend.

Parking for Women's Ice Hockey games on Friday and Saturday will be available at Yellow H Shields, Yellow H Wagner and Orange F, while parking for Saturday's game will also be available at the East and Eisenhower parking decks. Visitors attending the Penn State Tune-Up track & field meet on Saturday are directed to park in the south section of Jordan East (located south of Dauer Road).

TRAFFIC ADVISORIES

Beginning at 1 p.m. Friday, spectators will stage in the Porter North parking area, and will then be directed across Porter Road, traveling on the sidewalk on the south side of Curtin Road to reach the Bryce Jordan Center. As a result, Curtin Road between University Drive and Commuter Drive will be restricted to transit buses only from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. University Police and THON Committee members will be assisting with this crossing to ensure pedestrian safety. Motorists are asked to avoid the section of Curtin Road between University Drive and Porter Road.

The Dancers Walk will take place on Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Walk will begin at the Multi-Sport Facility and proceed north along Commuter Drive, the drive lane on the west side of Jordan East near the Bryce Jordan Center. During this time, Commuter Drive will be closed from the Multi-Sport Facility to Lot Orange L East (Founders Lot). Dauer Road (located south of the Bryce Jordan Center) will also be closed from Porter Road to University Drive.

During the Dancers Walk, all vehicles exiting Jordan East will be directed east to exit on to Porter Road. Vehicles parked at Lot Orange L East will be allowed to exit via the north lot entrance/exit only, and will then be required to proceed north to Curtin Road or east to Porter Road. No traffic will be allowed to exit Jordan East via Dauer Road (Located south of the Bryce Jordan Center). All access to Jordan East will be from Curtin Road or Porter Road only.

From 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Curtin Road will be closed to all traffic except CATA buses from University Drive to Porter Road. The Dancer Exit Strategy will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday and will be moving from the south entrance of the BJC to the Multi-Sport Facility. To accommodate this movement, Dauer Road will be closed from Porter Road to University Drive. During this time, only vehicles picking up THON dancers will be permitted to enter this area, and those vehicles must have a parking permit and be parked in a legal space. Vehicles will not be permitted to stage along Dauer Road or Commuter Drive.

TRANSIT CHANGES

From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, CATA's Red Link campus bus service will be rerouted to avoid the interior of Jordan East. Red Link buses traveling eastbound to Innovation Park will stay on Curtin Road to Porter Road, turning left on Porter and resuming the normal route to Innovation Park. The Red Link westbound will follow the normal routing to Porter Road, where it will turn right on Curtin Road and resume normal routing on to campus. The Porter Road stop east of Jordan East will not be used from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.

Thanks to sponsorship from The Retreat, both the Blue and White Loop will continue to operate early Saturday and Sunday mornings when service normally does not operate (2:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on the Blue Loop and 4:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on the White Loop). The additional service means the Loop service will operate continuously for the 48 hour period between 6 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Sunday at the scheduled frequency shown in the special THON Loop schedule, which can accessed via the link below:
