UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Effective immediately, continued snow, which is expected to transition to ice in Centre County around mid-day, has caused Penn State to cancel all activities its University Park on campus, including classes and exams, until 5 p.m. Feb 12. The University's normal course schedule will resume at 6 p.m.

Unless previously identified as performing essential services or unless advised otherwise by their supervisor:

  • Employees scheduled to work between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. should not report.
  • Employees scheduled to begin work mid-day and end after 5 p.m. (for example, 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.) should report at 5 p.m. to complete a partial shift.
  • Employees scheduled to report at or after 5 p.m. today should report as regularly scheduled.

According to the latest forecasts, current snowy conditions will give way to ice near mid-day, before transitioning to rain later in the day. The decision to cancel all activities was determined to be in the best safety interest of faculty, staff and students, particularly those who must travel a distance.

Scheduled activities will resume at 5 p.m. today. Beginning at 5 p.m., employees are expected to report at their next regularly scheduled reporting time. Faculty and staff should review Handling Weather Day Absences (Human Resources Guideline 10) at http://guru.psu.edu/policies/OHR/hrg10.html for specific information on how time missed for weather situations is handled.
