The campus has hosted MATHCOUNTS for more than 30 years

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. — Approximately 60 students from six school districts in Fayette and Greene counties will participate in the 2019 MATHCOUNTS competition at 9 a.m. on Feb. 7 in the Magerko Auditorium of the Community Center at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus.

MATHCOUNTS is a national enrichment, club, and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement through grassroots involvement in every U.S. state and territory. The annual event challenges students with various mathematical problems and equations.

Students from the following schools will be participating in this year’s competition: A. J. McMullen Middle School, Benjamin Franklin School, Albert Gallatin North Middle School, Lafayette School, Mapletown Junior High School and Margaret Bell Miller Middle School.

Penn State Fayette has hosted the competition for more than 30 years, and Kevin Maxwell, mathematics instructor at the campus, has coordinated the annual event for 20 years.

The “Countdown Round” portion of the event, at noon, is free and open to the public. Results will be announced following the competition. More information can be found at mathcounts.org.
