Events planned to mark Brown vs. Board of Education anniversary

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Center for Education and Civil Rights (CECR) is co-hosting a series of events leading up to the 65th anniversary of the Brown vs. Board of Education decision in May 2019. Each event will focus on how the promise of true integration can become a reality in today’s schools. The schedule follows:

  • "Race and Revolution: Still Separate, Still Unequal," now through April 6, Woskob Family Gallery and HUB-Robeson Gallery. This art exhibit, curated by Larry Ossei-Mensah and Katie Fuller, explores ongoing racial and economic disparity in the U.S. public school system. This project marks the first collaboration between the two galleries. More information on the exhibition can be found at the project website.
  • Pre-K Teacher Panel on Anti-Bias Education (brown-bag), 12:15 to 1:45 p.m. March 20, 113 Keller Building. Event sponsors are the Center for Education and Civil Rights, the Child Care Center at Hort Woods and the Bennett Family Center. For more information, visit the event website.
  • An Evening with Bryan Stevenson at Penn State (lecture and book signing), 7 p.m. March 20, Eisenhower Auditorium. The event is sponsored by the Rock Ethics Institute. For more information, visit the event website.
  • Teaching Tolerance Workshop, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 22, 201 Chambers Building. The event is sponsored by the Center for Education and Civil Rights, the College of Education Office of Multicultural Programs, and Teaching Tolerance. For more information, visit the event website.
  • Brown@65 Conference with keynote speech by Nikole Hannah-Jones, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 10.
