An award-winning photojournalist from Pittsburgh will share examples of her work and offer insights about the profession during a free public lecture Jan. 22 on the University Park campus.

Stephanie Strasburg of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, who has covered a wide range of assignments during her career, will be the featured guest at 7 p.m. in Foster Auditorium of Paterno Library. Her still, video and multimedia work has been recognized by local, state and national awards.

Strasburg is drawn to the economy, evolving landscape, and sociopolitical conditions of the Rust Belt and is interested in developing ways for stories to be found and shared in her community. Her recent work includes a long-term project that examined lives affected by the opioid epidemic in Carrick, Pennsylvania, outside Pittsburgh. Her freelance clients include Bloomberg, The New York Times, Reuters, STAT News, USA Today and, among others.

Before becoming a photojournalist, Strasburg worked as a bartender, landscaper, environmental educator, farm worker and artists' assistant.
