UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Dozens of middle and high school students from across Pennsylvania recently spent a day at the Earth and Mineral Sciences Museum & Art Gallery at Penn State learning about women in geosciences.

The event was organized as part of “The Bearded Lady Project: Challenging the Face of Science” exhibit, which seeks to highlight women in science and draw attention to issues they face. The exhibit is on display at Penn State through May.

More than 60 students toured the exhibit, heard from a panel of women geosciences graduate students and had an introductory geology lesson during the visit.

The Penn State student chapter of the Association for Women Geoscientists and the Center for Science and the schools in the College of Education organized the event. The Graduate and Professional Student Association and WE ARE for Science provided funding.
