Percussionists Robyn Schulkowsky and Joey Baron will join with Nilam Ram, professor of human development and family studies at Penn State, to explore sonic transformations of dyadic data and musical improvisation at the “Data-Musik House Concert”, taking place at 8 p.m. Jan. 17, in the Ruth Pike Auditorium, 022 Biobehavioral Health Building on Penn State’s University Park campus.
Part of Playing the Archive, a project conceived at the interface between data science and musical art, the trio has been creating artistic visualizations, sonifications, and materializations of scientific data since 2013.
Each year, the group selects a set of data archives from the study of human behavior and works to translate those data into artistic forms for presentation in their concert performances, lectures, and gallery exhibitions. This year, the group will supplement crowd favorites with explorations of dyadic data from lab-based conversations and emergent behavior in stage-based improvisations.
The one-hour concert will be followed by a post-performance discussion about the art-science creative process. The event is free to the community.
