Innovative Teaching at Penn State to offer lunch talk on teaching, scholarship

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Laura Cruz, associate research professor of teaching and learning scholarship in the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence, will present “Teaching + Scholarship: Can You Do It? Yes, You Can!” from 12:20 to 1:10 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, in Paterno Library’s Mann Assembly Room.

How can one combine the tools of research/scholarship with the practice of teaching? In this interactive talk, Cruz will consider what teaching and learning scholarship is; what it aspires to be; and why it matters. By thinking through some of its big questions as they apply to the classroom, Cruz will make sense of what’s happening in the field of pedagogy; evaluate the nature of evidence-based teaching and learning; and find ways for faculty to integrate the lessons learned into their own practice, whether as an instructor, scholar or advocate.

Cruz’s presentation is part of the Innovative Teaching at Penn State Brown Bag Lunch Series. Box lunches will be provided.

For those unable to attend in person, the talk will be available online via Zoom at https://psu.zoom.us/my/bill.goffe.
