Center for the Performing Arts donates almost $6K to THON

Penn State’s Center for the Performing Arts announced a final tally for funds raised for a major Penn State charity, thanks to ticket and merchandise sales at a performance in November.

For each ticket purchased for a Nov. 14 presentation featuring master musicians Béla Fleck, Zakir Hussain and Edgar Meyer, with special guest Rakesh Chaurasia, $5 was donated to Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, the University’s year-round charity aimed at supporting children and their families struggling with cancer.

After tallying ticket and merchandise sales, the center donated $5,961 to the Four Diamonds Fund.

In 2015, Fleck also donated proceeds from a Center for the Performing Arts presentation to THON. That year, Fleck performed with Abigail Washburn, his wife and fellow accomplished banjo musician.

Since its inception in 1973, THON has raised more than $157 million to fund cancer research and to pay the medical bills of families stricken by the disease.
