LionCash+ updates program to support Penn State Smoke-Free/Tobacco-Free policy

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Effective Jan. 1, 2019, the LionCash+ program will update its terms to support Penn State’s Smoke-Free/Tobacco-Free policy. The University put the new policy in place in the fall of 2018, designating all Penn State campuses smoke- and tobacco-free.

To align with the policy, LionCash+ users may not purchase prohibited products, including packaged alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, cannabis, smoking accessories, tanning services, and illicit drug paraphernalia. As well, merchants may not accept LionCash+ for stored value gift cards and debit cards.

Penn State updated policy AD32 to prohibit smoking and tobacco use in and on all University-owned or leased properties, facilities, and vehicles.

According to the updated policy, smoking includes burning any type of lit pipe, cigar, cigarette, or any other smoking equipment, whether filled with tobacco or other material. Using cigarettes, e-cigarettes, cigars, pipes, smokeless tobacco, and all nicotine delivery devices and tobacco products is prohibited.

Penn State is the 11th Big Ten school to implement a smoke-free policy to protect the health and well-being of its students, employees and visitors.
