UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Lead the Pride, a student leadership experience designed to take students through self-discovery and multiple phases of leadership development, was selected as the 2018 recipient of the Outstanding Community Building Program Award by the Association College Unions International (ACUI) Region VII Regional Leadership Team.
According to the ACUI, this specific award is given to those who have implemented a program that encourages the enhancement of community on campus.
Lead the Pride is sponsored by The Office of Student Activities, a unit of Penn State Student Affairs, and is an opportunity for students to learn more about their personal leadership style, how it will fit into the context of their specific involvement and how to use this in making an impact on the Penn State community.
The hope for the program is that students will have a transformational experience in which they can the use those tools to enhance their areas in involvement, share practices, collaborate and help support future student leaders.
This year’s Lead the Pride program was held at Penn State at the Nittany Lion Inn from Nov. 1 to 3.
Students who attended the 2017 program described it as very valuable and something they would recommend to their peers.
One student said, “I will see to not take offense when others disagree with my style of leadership because some people are more spontaneous, task-driven or simply focused elsewhere. Just because I lead a certain way does not mean everyone can jive with that behavior.”
